Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me. This was a song we sang almost every day in my primary school growing up. At the time, I had very little knowledge of what peace was but it seemed like something we believed in.
There are peacemakers all over the world today. They exist in all genders, colours and nationalities. These select few are the ambassadors for peace on earth. Peacemakers are also called the children of God. They carry the banner of peace given to them by the Prince and Lord of peace, Jesus Christ.
What is peace and how do we attain it?
To be spiritually minded is peace. When we think on things that are righteous and consider our lives as something more than to be self-served, we begin to understand what peace is. The weapons of our warfare are not carnal as the battle for peace starts and ends in the mind. When we keep our minds on God, he keeps us in perfect peace.
Fill your hearts with the law of God and he will add peace unto you. Sounds too easy to be true. The world says peace is attained by enacting laws and taking away freedoms. The word of God says that only his law is required. No legislations and bylaws of inclusion needed. When we give our hearts to God, he will even make our enemies to be at peace with us. Speaking of enemies...
Why do we not have peace?
Peace sounds incredibly straight forward for us not have it down by now. It's something we all desire so there has to be a disconnect somewhere. All religious faiths claim to have it. If we all say we want peace, then there should be peace, right? When the world says "peace", we should be aware of exactly what they are referring to.
While some say they desire peace, they actually mean they desire peace for themselves. They desire the peace of the world aka "world peace" but not peace for the world. The peace they speak of is conformity. Conforming to the desires of their hearts, lead by how they feel. Just to put things in perspective, this peace comes from the same reasoning we use to decide whether we want eggs or cereal for breakfast.
As believers, this should ring alarm bells because we are told to love not these ways. There is a line of separation drawn when it comes to peace. On one side you have the appearance of peace and the other is true peace. True peace does not look like what we think it does. Christ held the peace but he caused quite a stir. No, not by dropping tables. by dropping truth. He dropped a lot of wisdom in his parables long before any tables were flipped.
Peace cannot coexist where lies are present.
The reason we don't live in peace is because the world knows not peace. We were never taught the things of peace. We were taught about the absence of peace and given reasons as to why it was absent. We were then pointed toward things like money, power and respect and persuaded to believe that these were the things that bring us peace.
Misery loves company and the devil has always been a thief. If he cannot have peace, he will try to take yours from you. Peace is for all but it is not desired by all. It is the inheritance of the meek and the merciful. It was a gift given to us as Christ made peace with the Father through the blood of the cross.
How can we return to peace?
Listen to the voice of God. From the voice of the God proceeds his word. His word shall stand when all else fails. Give all glory and honour to him.
Give unto the LORD, O ye mighty, give unto
the LORD glory and strength.
2 Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his
name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holi-

the God of glory thundereth: the LORD is upon

of the LORD is full of majesty.
5 The voice of the LORD breaketh the cedars;
yea, the LORD breaketh the cedars of Lebanon.
6 He maketh them also to skip like a calf;
Lebanon and Sirion like a young unicorn.

ness; the LORD shaketh the wilderness of
9 The voice of the LORD maketh the hinds to
calve, and discovereth the forests: and in his
temple doth every one speak of his glory.
10 The LORD sitteth upon the flood; yea, the
LORD sitteth King for ever.
11 The LORD will give strength unto his peo-
ple; the LORD will bless his people with peace.
