Warring the spirit of disobedience

Wisdom is a wonderful thing. It is a gift from the Most High by which we are able to be fruitful in the land. With wisdom, we are asked to gain understanding. This understanding serves as a guide as to how our wisdom is best applied. What is the result of wisdom and understanding? Greatness.

“Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.”

Deuteronomy 4:6

Naturally, separation from this would yield the opposite. It would yield a land of chaos as the fruits we reap can only come from the seeds we sow. In rejection of the greatest source of wisdom there is, we embraced a strange wisdom of our own creation. Has our wisdom yielded the greatness God promised by his word?

“But wisdom is justified of all her children.”

Luke 7:35

Done away with

If we were to be completely honest with ourselves, how do we treat the wisdom of God? Take a trip to the book of Jeremiah with me. God had just sent word against his people so that they would turn from their evil ways and inevitable destruction. The message passed from messenger to messenger all the way down to Jehudi, son of the King. The response? He showed no fear upon reading God's word and threw it into the fire. Many may be thrown into the fire for a lack of knowledge. Beloved, please do not throw the word of God away.

“For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins”

Hebrews 10:26

Walk in remembrance of the gift that is grace. Treat the word of God with the same level of grace with which God treats us. It may mean standing against the crowd but peer pressure often opposes the wisdom of God.

“Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;”

2 Corinthians 10:5

Strange wisdom

An easy way out of one bad situation can also be an easy way into another. Doubts on being lead by the spirit of God, leaves the door open to being enchanted by others.

“For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft...”

- 1 Samuel 15:23

The spirit of disobedience belongs to a wicked family of masquerading spirits with their eyes fixed on dissuading the people of God. Where God has promised to lift us up, this strange wisdom lifts us up in his place. Where God has blessed us all beforetime, this strange wisdom exalts our minds, giving us a false sense of identity. This wisdom is corrupted and rooted in pride.

“This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.”

James 3:15

Arm wrestling

What exactly are we up against? The spiritual world operates on laws, statutes and commandments which then govern the natural world. Thankfully we have been introduced to one of their major laws.

“But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.”

Romans 7:23

This foreign law rebels against us in all the good we desire to do, as any attempts to turn away from wickedness renders us as prey. This law drives us into the chaos of carnality as its purpose is to persuade us into a life of vanity. One may live a productive life physically but if their spirit is vain, their life is considered worthless. Beloved of God, we are called to be kings and priests. When you're weighed in the balance, don't be found wanting.

“We grope for the wall like the blind, and we grope as if we had no eyes: we stumble at noonday as in the night; we are in desolate places as dead men.”

Isaiah 59:10

Only way is up

We may face an uphill battle but guess who sits at the top of the mountain? More often than not we find ourselves overmatched by the enemy as we attempt to engage without the wisdom and understanding of God. Jesus Christ tells us plainly that this is impossible.

“Who then can be saved?”

- Matthew 19:25

With God all things are possible and we can do all things through Christ. As persistent as that wicked law is, there is an even greater law. The law of faith in the word of God as revealed by Christ. In the beginning was the word and with it dwelled perfection. I encourage you to submit yourself to the wisdom and understanding of God today. Live in grace, walk in peace and be blessed.

“For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.”

Romans 8:2
